Training

I am a certified yoga teacher, meditation instructor, social worker and therapist. My thirty year passion for yoga and mindfulness meditation practices includes the study of Hatha, Ashtanga, Restorative, Trauma-Sensitive Yoga, Yoga for Seniors and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR).

Philosophy

I view yoga as a resource that can foster individual and community well-being.  Yoga is rooted in ancient wisdom traditions, practiced in India now applied widely in many different ways.  In my classes, I incorporate yoga, mindfulness practices, movement, expression and fun to support physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being.  I strive to create an environment of respect and inclusion, where classes are accessible for diverse ages, bodies and abilities.

Teaching

I have  had the pleasure of teaching yoga and meditation in a variety of community and health care organizations in the GTA that serve youth, adults and seniors, including LGBTQ youth and seniors.  I teach privately to groups and to individuals and enjoy the challenge and ethical commitment to modify yoga in ways that make it more accessible for individuals.   My CD – Mindful Minutes:  Simple Meditations in Hurried Times is available at Caversham Books in Toronto.

As a therapist I am interested in the mind-body connection and the benefits of yoga and mindfulness for anxiety, depression, trauma, awareness and social justice.
